Stir-Fried Fish with Ginger Juice

Fresh ginger juice can be prepared by pounding the root first and with a small amount of water, squeeze the juice out through a fine sieve. Any kind of veggie can be added in this dish and my preference would be the green and red capsicums. Mix everything together for a quick stir-fry and don't forget the seasonings. Lastly for garnishing, sprinkle chopped spring onions on top and drizzle a little zesty lime or lemon juice before serving.

RelishSavour Cooks Up A Storm!

It's the time of the year again of spending hours in the kitchen dishing up favourite dishes for the clan to savour.

Braised mushroom and beancurd (hidden underneath)

Vegetable soup with eggs (There's an auspicious name in chinese which I can't recall right now)

Fish maw soup. A traditional foochow dish.

Longevity noodle.

Cereal prawns.

Roast chicken... from Ayamas. Well, I've tried roasting on my own last year and it turned out pretty bad so no attempt this year. Amitabha.

Same old dishes shared among family members on a day before the festival every year and I wonder if they are bored with the selections already :P

Lam Mee with Roasted Pork

Quick and easy dish to prepare on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The "siew yoke" was actually leftovers which my mom bought from the market yesterday and the idea of adding some into this noodle was a good one. Slurp!

Stuffed Tofu Puffs with Fish Paste

Fish paste is easily available at wet markets but mostly lack the springy texture. Home made fish paste is always the best but the process of making one is extremely tedious and time consuming (my mom enjoys the preparation though). We'll usually make lots of it at one go, separate in batches (different containers) and keep in the fridge. Click here on how to make your own paste.

One of my recipes using fish paste is this...Stuffed Tofu Puffs. It's easy to prepare as I had the paste readily available in the fridge.

Using a spoon, stuff fish paste on halved tofu puffs. Pan fry for several minutes until meat is cooked and set aside. Gravy is then prepared with ingredients such as garlic, carrots, waterchestnuts, minced pork and black fungus (or mushroom). Oyster sauce and seasonings are added to taste. Lastly, some cornflour mixture to thicken the gravy. Pour over tofu puffs and serve hot. Do sprinkle some spring onions for garnishing if you like. This dish is delicious to eat on its own or with rice.

My Comfort Food : Porridge and Pork Strips with Preserved Vegetable

Porridge is really versatile as it soaks up all sorts of flavours and this time I added some shredded carrots and corns. I also prepared a separate dish using Sichuan preserved vegetables or "char choy" braised with pork strips to complement the porridge.

Fried Tofu with Honshimeji Mushroom

My mom loves to eat mushrooms and for dinner, I've specially prepared a dish using Honshimeji mushrooms.

Other ingredients such as black fungus, tofu, and button mushrooms included in this dish were stir fried together with some seasonings. Cuts of blanched broccoli arranged neatly round the plate for presentation purpose, ahem.
