Bangkok 23 - 26 April 2008

Just to share some random pictures taken during my Bangkok trip not too long ago.

Stayed in Samran Place Hotel. The rooms are clean and serves delicious a la carte breakfasts. There are also some food stalls nearby (Ratchatchewi BTS station) and one of them serves pretty good Pad Thai.

Streets of Chinatown, also known as Yaowarat by the locals. The high arch in the second picture below is the landmark.

MBK shopping mall's food court.Plenty of selections to choose from for hungry patrons. Mango sticky rice is one of the best desserts served here.

Most of the restaurants/stalls that sells tomyum are good but I just love the tomyum meehoon served at Suan Lum Night Bazzar's food court because coconut milk is added and it brings out the distinctive taste. Yummy :D

Panoramic view before, during and after sunset of The Grand Palace and Wat Arun.

The snake farm. It is known to be the largest producer of anti-venom serums in Asia. I can't remember how much I paid for the entrance fee but the show was definitely an eye opener for me.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. This place is no longer worth visiting as the amount of tourists are more than the locals and there's nothing much to look at. Souvenirs are expensive and I think the only thing that is worth buying are the fruits.

Chatuchak market. This place is claimed to be the largest outdoor market in Asia (or the whole wide world?) boasting over thousands of stalls. Gosh, this place is so hot and crowded! Everything can be found here even pets and things are cheaper here compared to the floating market.

For those who are interested in having a holiday at Bangkok, I would recommend to go between November - February, which is the peak season when it is less humid. Drinking water is easily available at convenient stores all over Bangkok especially town areas and they're generally cheap. Booking a tour with local agency can be done at your hotel or Khao San road but planning the itinerary yourself can save you more since public transportations are available such as trains, buses and cabs.

Review : Kinohimitsu J'pan D'tox Juice (6 Day Program)

There are so many different types of detox tea in the market but I've only tried 21st Century's. One cup is enough to make me feel nauseaous due to the taste and smell. The bad experience has deterred me from trying out other brands until recently my manager gave me a teabag (of another brand) to try. Taste wise, it was bearable and the result showed several hours later and the next morning. Since I have constipation problem sometimes, I decided to buy another box and this time of another brand called Kinohimitsu. There are 2 flavours, peppermint and ginger.

This product is available at most pharmacies and I got mine from Watsons. As I was browsing through other range of products over the counter, I stumbled upon this box called J'pan D'tox Juice - 6 Day Program. Quite expensive but the details somehow managed to convince me to try it out. A box consists of 6 tiny bottles of concentrated fruit (plum) juice and to be consumed once a day consecutively. What's good about this product is that no special diet control is required but you would need to plan when to consume the drink as defecation process takes about 2-4 hours.

I started the program right away and the amazing result showed in 2 hours. I was shocked to see the amount of waste excreted from my body! Hmm, I think could have easily weighed about a KG :P Gosh, just imagine how dirty our inner body is. Sorry, no pictures as I didn't bring my camera along. Haha.

The rest of the 5 days were okay. The results began to slow down but I didn't have any problems going to the loo.

It is recommended to continue drinking the juice in the long term by cutting down the dosage to 1-2 bottles a week to maintain good digestion and overall health benefits.

FINAL VERDICT
Price: 2/5 (Expensive @ RM69.80 for 6 tiny bottles)
Taste: 3/5 (Slightly sweet. Reminds me of prune juice)
Effectiveness: 4/5 (Result proven on the first day of the program)

On a lighter note: Be warned that lots of gas will be released throughout the program and it can be quite embarassing!

Nikon Coolpix S210

Splurged a bit this month to get a new digicam. I've surveyed several brands and models but due to a tight budget, I've finally settled with the new Nikon Coolpix S210. This slim and compact camera first caught my attention at a camera store with its stylish and beautiful aluminum body and also, packed with all the necessary features that I was looking for.

A review was done by Steve Digicams and this was what he said "Nikon has introduced a new ultra-compact Coolpix model to their Style Series line. The super thin (less than 3/4- inch) S210 offers 8- megapixels resolution, a 3x Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens, and Electronic Vibration Reduction (VR) Image Stabilization technology. The S210 features Electronic VR Image Stabilization, which is designed to help produce sharper and clearer images, especially in lower lighting conditions or when capturing moving subjects. Users can also take advantage of extended light sensitivity settings as high as ISO 2000. Automatic sensitivity control is also included, which allows users to concentrate on a taking a photo while the camera selects the optimal ISO. To minimize blur, the S210 comes with a High-Sensitivity mode that automatically selects the optimal light sensitivity. The COOLPIX S210 utilizes Nikon's innovative EXPEED image processing system for enhanced noise reduction and improved the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio".

I'm going to start reading the manual ASAP in order to familiarise myself with the functions and start snapping away~

Delicious Curry Fish Head @ HappyCity Food Court, Kepong KL

BACKLOG

I received free tickets to watch Disney's Beauty and the Beast - The Broadway Musical at the Plenary Hall, KLCC in June 2008. A very entertaining show with lots of props and stunning costumes.

After the show, we left the place around 6+pm with hungry stomachs and big appetites. I suggested to have dinner at Kepong because I just love the curry fish head available at Happy City food court. Exact location is Kepong Baru and the nearby landmarks are Carrefour and KFC. You won't miss the food court as you'll spot it easily when driving along the main road at Kepong Baru.

Due to the petrol price hike, there's also a slight increase with the smallest portion which costs RM10 (previously RM9) excluding rice. You may opt to have more meat and not the head by informing the person who is handling your order.

Lots of vegetables, taufu pok, curry powder, herbs are added into the claypot and cooked under high flames for several minutes. Level of spiciness is only moderate so for those who could not tolerate spicy food, this is perfect for you. Do dine in early on weekend evenings as the list of orders could get really long and waiting time is at least 15 mins.

We knew that we would have to wait since we arrived quite late for the evening so packing away a dinner set of KFC beforehand would cure our hunger pangs for the time being. I think we looked extremely hungry and greedy judging from the stares we received :p

Ohh... the owner of this stall also guarantees the freshness of the ingredients especially the fish as it is the utmost important tip in cooking delicious seafood dish. I totally agree with this!

FINAL VERDICT
Location: 4/5 (Ample parking space)
Taste: 4/5 (Eat your heart out!)
Hygiene: 2/5 (Well, it's a food court)
Price: 3/5 (Reasonable. They do not skimp on the ingredients)
